Why pay for a pool when you already have a basement?

The thing about houses is that they're supposed to be waterproof, but sometimes they aren't.  The first time I should have learned about basement waterproofing was when I was living in NY (a number of miles from Wilmington) and noticed that the TV in the basement didn't float while my dog did.  "That's weird", I thought, "I didn't know that we had a pool down here..."  This thought differed quite drastically from my father's which although included a variety of words, failed to include the phrase "basement waterproofing".

It took me a few years before I realized that our error had been in not having a basement waterproofing expert perform some basement waterproofing on our basement (probably because from the amount of water in our basement I assumed that it must have already been waterproof) but surely that was the case.  It is kind of an odd thing to think that your house isn't waterproof.  I mean, I have that thought about my tent when I go camping, but have a friend or two who doesn't even consider that. 

Some things (like basement waterproofing) we don't think about until it's too late.  Kind of like not considering that you might need an extra pair of pants when attending a wedding.  (this is right on par with thinking, "Hm, did I forget the basement waterproofing?")

Either way, if you happen to find a basement full of water some time, let me know and I'll bring over some pool toys. 

I think that will evaporate...
